Create Beautiful Designs Nothing says rustic beauty like real stone. The image above shows pieces of tumbled travertine set in a brick pattern. Real stone takes a little more time to install as it needs to be sealed before it is grouted. There are many types of sealants. This backsplash was sealed with a regular sealant that kept the natural rustic look. Oil based sealants bring out the natural colors for a richer look.
Depending upon where the stone was harvested from, the stone will have a range of colors. We recently did the backsplash pictured below (on the left). The stone is tumbled travertine out of Turkey, they are square pieces set diagonally. The stone countertop is a beautiful piece of rust, black and beige granite. The first photo is of the stone sealed with the standard sealant and grouted. The next photo is after 3 coats of an oil based sealant which brought out all the colors. To test what it will look like with an oil sealant, just wet the stone with water. Stone like this is the perfect compliment of colors. In addition, the tuscan mural adds a personal touch from the customers worldly travels. A look like this does is not without a higher price tag. Natural stone is more expensive as it is cut right out of a mountain, making every piece unique.
